This is Book Two of The Berinfell Prophecies. I have not read book one but felt like I was able to glean enough from the first few chapters of the book to not feel lost. It is a fantasy/adventure story of seven teenagers who are thrust into a world filled with supernatural creatures and told that they are the leaders of that world.
The book was frightening, gory and violent with many scenes of wars and battles depicted. The action was fast-paced and the story line moved quickly. For my own tastes it was a bit dark and depressing. The story is not overtly Christian and requires some effort and thought to make it such. There is a classic good vs. evil theme and an overall theme of the value of teamwork. The story was well-written and exciting, however I would not recommend it to younger children due to the violence.
It is always better to read a series of books from the beginning to really be able to follow the tale the authors weave.

A friend of mine is heavily promoting this book right now! She has read other stuff by these authors and I really want to read it....I'm into suspense/horror/drama - my two favorite authors being Stephen King and Dean Koontz so I am eager to read this. I'm glad to know it's the second though, I'll have to check out the first one before.

I'm truly surprised you classified this as horror or gory. Out of curiosity have do you in general classify fantasy as that? I'm not coming to come off rude and apologize if I am.
The book in my opinion was very good and I would encourage anyone to read the first (Curse of the Spider King), it wasn't quite as much violence, it was more of adventure. The Seven trying to find a portal to escape back to Allyra where book two takes place. (Although, there is a few small battles and one bigger one at the end)

I was glad to hear from you. I do not think you are being rude at all. I was just expressing how the book affected me as one of millions of people on this earth. Some things are scary to me...LOL!! And this book was one of them! I too wish I had read the first book. I have heard several friends mention how much they like the books in this series. Everyone has different opinions about books and things that stand out to them. I see that you are an aspiring teenage writer. I encourage you in your goal!!
When I was a teenager I started writing as well and have been blessed to have several short stories and poems published. I think the Book Sneeze program is awesome and it helps me to read others reviews as well when I am choosing books for my own reading or for my children's school reading (we homeschool).

I do scrapbook, although blogging has kind of taken it's place right now. I can keep our pictures organized, journal events in our lives and not make a mess or have to have a ton of space to store scrap supplies! that book was not at all me or something I would normally read. I picked it for my husband. lol as a children's pastor, he is always reading junior christian books so he has things to refer for kids to read. what did you think of it?
Seth, I read the same book and I agree with Pam. I found it dark and sad. I believe anyone who likes dark/horror will enjoy it but this genre is not for us all. I would rather read a good non fiction motivational Christian book and I am certain Pam would also!
